First Christian Basilicas and churches

When in 311 a.d. the Emperor Constantine established the Christian Church as a power in the State the Christian assembly halls that did exist where small inconspicuous. From that time on churches had been erected modelled not on pagan temples, unable to host crowds, but on the type of large assembly halls which had been known in classical times under the name of basilicas.
